History:

Star Colonel Ulysses Vewas, commander of the 7th Cruiser Cluster (the Riptides), an elemental who scored the first kill against the ComStar 8th army on Tukayyid, related as follows:

Star Colonel Ulysses Vewas had seen many battles since passing his Trial of Position to become an elemental in the Clan Diamond Shark Touman.  In his mind, all of them had led up to this moment, this final battle.  This battle was to decide the fate of the shining jewel of the planet called Terra.

The dropship had landed in the Kozice Valley, and in the city below he could make out the dim images of the 85th and 182nd divisions of the ComStar 8th Army.  He and his elemental cluster moved down the hillside they were meet by heavy fire from a pair of bright white Atlases.  The rest of the elementals he was leading broke for cover, but not Ulysses.  He had a different plan, even if it would cost him his life; he wanted to sink the first of the sharks teeth into the ComStar ’Mechs.  He wanted to draw first blood for the honor of his Clan.

As Ulysses ran towards the towering white giant he saw a few of his men that he had trained from the day they had came into his cluster, lying face down in the mud.  Leaping into the sky, he fired his jumpjets.  Flying towards the large grinning white face of the first Atlas, he was hit in the leg by a medium laser fired by the second Atlas.  Burning pain went though his body but was soon relieved, as his elemental suit kicked into gear, pumping his body full of pain killers from an injector unit.  The pain gone, he planted the claws into the face plate of the Atlas, while trying at the same time to plant his feet and gain control of his jump.  He stumbled a little as he realized he could only effectively control one leg, but he persevered and finally gained stability. Looking into one of the massive red eyes, he could see the warrior inside.

Using his right arm laser as a cutting torch, he cut though the armor plating over the eye.  As the black smoke cleared he could now view and make out the insignia of a Commanders’ bars. Seeing the ComStar pilot moving the ’Mechs arms to grab him, did not hesitate. Screaming, “Die Freebirth, scum,” he fired his pair of Short-range missiles into the open gap.  A large fireball came out of the eye of the Atlas, throwing Ulysses Vewas off the ’Mech, and down to the distant ground below.  Laying on the ground, Ulysses watched the Atlas collapse to the ground as smoke streamed out of the gaping hole in its shattered face.

He had done it; he had taken first blood.  As he closed his eyes and fell into unconsciousness, he could hear over his headset, “Way to go Star Colonel Vewas, you have made your Clan proud.  The white mechs have fallen -- move forward men.”

Characteristics:

The tenets of Blood House Vewas are honor, loyalty, and perseverance.  Staunch Wardens who believe that the Clans are destined to conquer the Inner Sphere in order to save them, Blood House Vewas holds as members many of Clan Diamond Sharks finest ristars.

Honor is expected of a Vewas warrior in all things.  Vewas honor accepts any tactic on the battlefield as fair, with the sole exceptions of breaking zellbriggen (if and when used) and submitting a false batchall.  Acutely political, the Vewas Blood Heritage is always heard in Clan Councils.  Never rash, they prefer to hear all sides of an issue before voicing their opinion and position.  Zellbriggen is the preferred method of handling disputes within the Clan and with trusted warriors outside the Clan, but a study of the tactics used in the Clan Invasion by the Inner Sphere have caused them to disregard Zellbriggen in standard warfare situations.

Loyalty to the Clan, the Diamond Keshik, and the Clan way is a priority above all.  The Vewas Blood House is a champion of the lower castes to a degree unprecedented even in Clan Diamond Shark, and the need for all castes support and efforts for the Clan to succeed as a whole is a well-accepted fact.  Due to this philosophy, the Vewas Blood Line has always held Clan Smoke Jaguar in utter contempt due to their treatment of their own lower castes.

Perseverance toward the bettering of oneself in all the arts of the warrior is mandatory for those who hold this Blood Heritage.  Even though the Vewas, like all other Blood Houses, have their preferred methods of fighting (see below), all types of combat are to be studied and practiced so as to never be at a disadvantage.  This perseverance toward excellence and proving ones abilities is evident -- no other Blood House so frequently calls to be judged and advanced through Trials of Position.

Best at strategic warfare, the Vewas frequently propose viable battle plans.  Stable battlefield commanders as well, a Vewas is always ready to take over should the drop leader be eliminated in any melee.

On the battlefield, the warriors of Blood House Vewas fill many roles.  Given their choice, Clan Heavy chassis are preferred, ideally with long-range weapons.  The use of Long-range missiles is a specialty; in considering strategy Vewas warriors never underestimate the usefulness of combat support roles.  Speed and armor are often prevalent in their mech designs as well, giving them a higher survival rate then the average warrior, even though kills may take them a few moments longer due to the slightly lower weapons load they carry to support this.  Additionally, most Vewas warriors are well-versed in the ’Mechs of the enemy, and whenever an IS chassis is available or required it is as often as not a Vewas who has the most experience with it.
