History:
The Bloodname Stabber was established by the online Clan Diamond Shark in honor of our former saKhan, Bum Stabber. Here is the story of its creation, as related by Oathmaster TMan Sennet:
The dimly lit room barely revealed the outline of the occupant sitting quietly with his thoughts and his drink. The reminiscent memories went by, one after another, with no concern as to whether the occupant wanted to view them or not. Friends and Sibkin, come and gone with only their files and token momentos to mark their stay in this life.
The lone man heaved a sigh and muttered “Why do I always act like this every year?”
Taking the last swallow of his drink, he set the glass aside on his sturdy desk with only the slightest clink of the ice within. Boxes of his possessions lined the walls of his 10 by 10 meter squared office. With a passing glimpse, you could not tell whether he was arriving or leaving. His office just hung in a nether-void of existence, ready to be packed or unpacked.
A hail came from his door.
“Who is it?” Bum stabber spoke to the door, “Can't you people just let me be? I have a lot of work to do and none of you have any idea how much work it is to run a Galaxy-wide administration,” he said to himself in a sarcastic tone.
“Bum, it is Blake. May I come in?” the voice calmly asked from outside on the intercom.
“Oh, I'm sorry Blake, but what do you want with an old retired saKhan?” Bum Stabber breathed as he leaned back into his chair.
“Khan Tinman has sent for you.” Blake toned back. The tension in his voice became evident as he spoke.
“What does Tin want? He knows how to use the intercom; why didn't he just page me?” the saKhan Emeritus thought out loud in responce.
“I do not fancy knowing. But he asked that I bring you to the Council Chambers immediately. I would much prefer to conduct this inside your office rather than through the door,” Blake said with resignation in his voice.
“No need Blake; I am coming out.” With that Bum Stabber stood up, brushed the wrinkles out of his uniform, and headed to the door. With the vocal command of “Open” the door slid effortlessly out of the way.
“Thank you Bum, two Elementals just walked by and looked at me like I had lost my mind, talking to a door.”
“Nevermind them. Take
me to the Council chamber.”
As the two old friends and former co-workers walked in silence to the Council Chamber, Bum Stabber looked at the faces of the new recruits that passed by him. Cadets by the dropship-load were everywhere. Even though they knew who he was and looked with reverence, he couldn't place a name to any of the faces.
“I have to get out of that damn office more than once in a while,” he muttered to no one in particular.
Quietly they approached the door to the Council Chambers on the Flagship of Clan Diamond Shark’s armada: Terror of the Deep. Blake opened the door for Bum Stabber. His first view of the Council Chambers in almost a year and it felt so different but he couldn’t put his finger on why or how it was different, it just was. There was no illumination in the room; pitch black. Slowly, a light began to grow bright enough to reveal what was underneath it. The Diamond Keshik was seated at the council pulpits, and their grim faces did not sit well with Bum Stabber. A feeling of entrapment grew in the pit of his stomach. With their monitors all dimmed, the light overhead cast deep shadows in their eye sockets and gave the impression that they were hollow doubles of their honorable selves. Bum’s attention was drawn to the flanks of the Diamond Shark leaders. The lights to the left and the right began to cast their waves of electron-driven light. In those cones of light warriors wearing the masks of the Hammerhead, Mako, Tigershark, Blue shark, Sandshark, Great White, and Diamond Shark were revealed to him. In the hands of the wearer of the Diamond Shark mask was a scroll of parchment. The warrior stepped forward, unrolled the scroll and began to read outloud.
“SaKhan Emeritus Bum Stabber, you have been called here today before the Diamond Keshik in answer to the summons of Inquisition.” The monitors before the council came to life and washed their faces with a sickening blue-white glow.
“Your inquisitor will be the honorable Star Captain Rhino of Blood House Hawker.” The warrior behind the mask stated flatly and stepped back into his original position.
Rhino Hawker stood from his seat off to the right, proceeded to place his earpiece into his ear and nodded both to the Council and to his former colleague. TMan Sennet leaned forward to his monitor punched some buttons and Rhino spoke, “Bum Stabber, how long have you been with the leading Caste of Clan Diamond Shark?”
Bum wiped his brow and replied, “Over 5 years.”
“And in that time, you have handled the day to day operations of the Clan and also helped the Khans with their administrations, quiaff?”
“Aff.”
“Did you ever receive direct orders from Khan Emeritus Red Eye of House Nagasawa to move troops into other Clans occupied space?”
“Aff, we used many other Clans’ jump points regularly.”
“Mayhap I have not been clear enough. Did you, or did you not, help the Khan Ermitus Red Eye of House Nagasawa to facilitate an attack on Clan Snow :// n?”“Yes, I did.” Bum Stabber stated with a gleam in his eyes. His mind whirled with questions, “Why are they trying to string me up? What have I done that was wrong? What do they plan on doing to me?”
“Did you also help Khan Emeritus Wolf Hawker plan an Invasion upon the most besought jewel known as Terra?” Rhino asked, while lowering his head to avert his gaze from Bum's face.
“Aff, I did. We had made a deal with the Draconis Combine and were shown their true honor when they double crossed us and dropped in behind the enemy lines to help bolster our rival’s ranks.”
“Bum Stabber, why did you retire from the Diamond Shark Ruling Caste?”
Bum Stabber thought long and hard about the question. “I left the Ruling Caste to pursue other administrative positions. I still have helped whenever I could with the Ruling Caste. I have devoted time and endless resources selflessly with no request of reciprocation or of reimbursement.”
“Aff Bum. Believe it or not, we are aware of that. And that is why you are here today. Bum Stabber, long have you selflessly helped the Clan, and today we pay our tribute to you.”
All of the lights in the Council Chambers came on and Bum Stabber realized that all of the stands behind him were full. Every row of the council chamber held vetrans that he had trained with, fought with, worked with, and grew with. Cadets, Support staff, Bay Techs, and the illustrious CDS camp cook Dahak Sennet were standing in the aisles clapping and whistling. Awe and surprise swept over him at once and left him in an awkward silence. His attention was returned to the podium when Khan Tinman stood up and started to speak.
“Bum, long time friend and associate, the time has come for us to show you how much you mean to us. We thought long and hard of what we as a group could give to you to show you our appreciation of everything you have done to help make us one of the most formidable forces in the Clans. What we decided upon, and I must say it was actually Rhino Hawker's idea,” Tin said as he looked over at the Star Captain and saw a small smile cross his face, “is thus: When you were of the Warrior Caste you trialed for the Blood Name of Hawker. We have decided to give you a Blood Name based not upon your valorous deeds and actions in the field of battle, but based upon your valorous deeds and actions in the field of command. Not only will you receive a Blood Name, but you are now the head of your own House.”
“Warriors, and leaders of Clan Diamond Shark, may I proudly present to you, Bum of House Stabber!”
The second that Tin finished his sentence the Council Chamber went up in a frenzied eruption of cheers and yells of joy aimed at Bum of House Stabber. Rhino Hawker walked up behind his compatriot and said, “Happy birthday, my friend,” and then put his arm around his shoulders and basked in the exultation of the Clan mates with Bum.
